The NBIS Team Lead is responsible for planning, performing, and managing bridge inspection assignments in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and NCDOT requirements. This role provides technical leadership to inspection staff in the field, ensures compliance with DRMP and NCDOT quality standards, and supports the Program Manager in scheduling, safety, and reporting oversight. The Team Lead serves as the on-site leader for field operations—responsible for inspection accuracy, data collection, safety adherence, and communication with both internal and client stakeholders.
Your Primary Responsibilities will include
• Lead NBIS bridge inspections following NCDOT policies, FHWA Bridge Inspection Manual, and applicable AASHTO guidelines.
• Coordinate inspection logistics, including scheduling, traffic control, and equipment needs.
• Perform hands-on and rope-access inspections as needed.
• Review inspection data, photographs, and notes prior to report submittal.
• Mentor and provide direction to inspection helpers and technicians.
• Promote safety and accountability in all field operations.
• Track and document team hours, expenses, and field activity logs.
• Assist with progress reports, monthly summaries, and QA/QC reviews.
• Maintain communication with NCDOT and internal teams regarding progress and issues.
What you'll need
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience.
• NBIS Team Leader Certification (required).
• Minimum of 5 years of bridge inspection experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

• 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of NBIS standards, bridge components, materials, and common defects.
• Knowledge of FHWA Bridge Inspection Reference Manual and NCDOT BMS.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and NCDOT reporting software.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PE license in North Carolina (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• Knowledge of FHWA Bridge Inspection Reference Manual and NCDOT BMS.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Ability to climb, walk, and work in elevated or confined environments; lift up to 50 lbs; and work outdoors year-round. Travel and overnight stays required based on inspection schedules.
