Lead Mechatronics Engineer
Job Overview
We're looking for a Lead Mechatronics Engineer to join our R&D team and help shape the future of concrete 3D printing. This isn't just a technical role; you'll spend your time equally divided between hands-on engineering, leading and mentoring a team, and optimizing our development processes. You'll play a critical role in developing and deploying the next generation of our 3D printing systems.
Initially, your focus will be on hands-on mechatronics engineering for your first 3 months. After this period, you will transition into a team leadership role, where you'll dedicate your time to a balanced mix of technical leadership, people management, and engineering operations.
What you'll be doing:
- Hands-on Engineering (30-40%):
Design and implementation of mechatronics subsystems of 3D-printing systems.
Prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis of system performance.
Preparation and maintenance of drawings, documentation, and communication with manufacturers.
Leading systems installation, commissioning/updating, and support
Technical Team Leadership (30%): You will lead a diverse team of 6-8 engineers (mechatronics and automation), providing technical guidance, mentoring direct reports, and fostering a collaborative environment.
DevOps & Operations (30%): You'll work closely with the Head of R&D to refine our R&D development processes. This includes running sprints, defining tasks, and improving our overall team efficiency and operations.
Who we're looking for:
A seasoned engineer with a degree in Mechatronics, Control Engineering, or a related field.
6-8 years of experience in designing and implementing complex mechatronics systems preferably in industrial equipment, robotics, or additive manufacturing.
Technical skills:
Mechanical design (SolidWorks or other, prototyping, manufacturing drawings).
Expertise in instrumentation and control engineering, including component selection, calibration, data acquisition, and feedback loop design.
Integration of components with PLCs (TwinCat/Beckhoff and ST experience is a plus)
Supporting systems from concept to commissioning (prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, data analysis).
Soft skills:
Proven experience in a team leadership or senior role, with a track record of mentoring junior engineers.
Familiarity with DevOps principles, agile methodologies and Atlassian suite is highly valued.
Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.
Position is based in Espoo Finland, requires travel (to UK and within EU) for about a month every 6-12 months for installations and system updates/upgrades.
