Medical Director Job Description 

 

Summary:  

The Medical Director will provide medical oversight, supervise clinical teams, and ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance across our programs. The Medical Director will collaborate closely with the Chief Clinical Officer, work directly with the Director of Medical Services, and provide guidance and training to all medical staff as needed. The Medical Director will also play an active role on Anew’s Quality Committee, which supports the organization through education, supervision, auditing, and policy guidance. In addition, this role requires partnership with Anew’s leadership to pursue and maintain medical licensing and credentialing across all 50 states, leveraging the physician’s credentials to expand access to care nationally. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Clinical Leadership & Oversight 

  • Provide medical direction and supervision to physicians, advanced practice providers, and medical staff. 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Clinical Officer to ensure alignment of medical practices with organizational strategy. 
  • Work directly with the Director of Medical Services to coordinate daily medical operations and ensure seamless delivery of care. 
  • Provide guidance, consultation, and training to nursing staff when additional support is required. 
  • Participate actively in the Quality Committee, contributing to education, clinical supervision, auditing, and policy development. 

Licensing & Credentialing 

  • Partner with leadership to pursue, obtain, and maintain organizational licensing and credentialing across all 50 states. 
  • Support credentialing efforts with payers, accrediting bodies, and regulatory agencies. 
  • Ensure Anew Behavioral Health remains in good standing with all applicable licensing boards and agencies. 

Quality, Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Develop, review, and enforce clinical protocols, standards of care, and treatment guidelines. 
  • Oversee quality assurance programs and risk management initiatives. 
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, patient safety, and adherence to evidence-based practices. 
  • Implement corrective actions and training when needed to ensure clinical excellence. 

Team Development & Training 

  • Provide mentorship, medical supervision, and ongoing education to physicians and clinical staff. 
  • Design and support continuing professional education programs. 
  • Foster a culture of ethical practice, teamwork, accountability, and professional growth. 

External Representation & Collaboration 

  • Build partnerships with public, academic, and industry stakeholders. 
  • Represent Anew Behavioral Health at conferences, community events, and thought leadership forums. 

Supervision Given:  

This position does not supervise any staff. 

 

Supervision Received:  

The Medical Director reports to the CEO. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Current, unrestricted medical license with willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed. 
  • Experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, and/or substance use treatment. 
  • Familiarity with licensing, credentialing, and compliance requirements for multi-state practice. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with executive and clinical leadership teams. 
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with a commitment to patient-centered care. 

Education: 

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school 

 

Certification: 

  • Board certified in psychiatry, addiction medicine or related profession strongly preferred 
  • NPI number/Ohio Medicaid ID is required  

 

Experience: 

  • Experience Physician with Minimum of 5 years within a leadership or executive role.  

 

Physical Effort: 

  • Requires sitting for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. 

 

Background: 

  • Must pass all Federal and State background checks according to company policy. 

 

Schedule: 

  • Monday through Friday, In-between 8 AM to 5PM
