The Payroll Accounting Team Lead is responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll accounting process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of deliverables. This role provides leadership and guidance to a team of payroll accountants, oversees complex reconciliations and journal entries, and partners with Payroll, HR, and Finance stakeholders to ensure the integrity of payroll-related financial data. The Payroll Team Lead drives process improvements, ensures SOX and audit compliance, and fosters a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Lead and manage a team of payroll process lead, Sr. Specialists, and Specialists to deliver accurate and timely payroll accounting results.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and posting of payroll journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Review and approve reconciliations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to payroll accounting.
- Partner with Payroll Operations, HR, and Finance to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor performance against SLAs and ensure timely submission of all deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, standardization, and control enhancement.
- Coach and mentor team members, fostering professional growth and high performance.
- Prepare and present reports and analytics on payroll accounting performance, variances, and trends.
- Ensure appropriate back-up coverage and business continuity within the team.
