Sr Data Scientist

The Data Scientist leads advanced analytics initiatives and partners with cross-functional teams—including commercial insights, manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, data teams, service owners, and external vendors—to develop analytical models and deliver insights that solve complex business problems. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of analytics projects, from identifying needs and defining approaches to building models and communicating results. The Data Scientist drives meaningful business impact through innovative application of machine learning, AI, and statistical techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and application of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence capabilities across the organization.
• Build high-performance algorithms, predictive models, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts using Python.
• Design analytical methodologies to address specific business questions and optimize decision-making.
• Lead analytics projects end-to-end with minimal supervision.
• Conduct SWOT analyses, identify business needs, propose analytical approaches, gain stakeholder alignment, and execute solutions.
• Work with SQL and other database languages to extract and manipulate large datasets.
• Ensure compliance with all privacy, regulatory, and data security standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple business functions to define requirements and develop analytical strategies.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners to drive alignment and ensure successful project outcomes.
• Work closely with data engineering, operations, and technology teams to enable robust analytics workflows.
• Present analytical ideas, progress updates, and final insights in a clear and compelling manner.
• Create impactful presentations and data stories using PowerPoint and Excel.
• Translate complex analytical results into actionable business recommendations.

Core Competencies & Skills

• Background in Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Applied Physics, Statistics, or Operations Research.
• Demonstrated experience leading analytics projects end-to-end.
• Experience with SQL, relational databases, and graph databases.
• Strong coding skills in Python, R, or SAS; familiarity with ML libraries (scikit-learn, MLlib, Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Ability to write clean, reusable, well-abstracted code; familiarity with Linux environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent organization and planning skills, especially for handling large or complex datasets.
• Ability to influence and collaborate with business partners and technical teams.
• Outstanding communication skills for presenting insights clearly and effectively.
• Experience with distributed computing tools such as Spark or Hive.
• Passion for continuous learning and staying current with emerging analytics techniques.
• Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or regulated industries (preferred).

Requirements

Required Education & Experience

• Doctorate

• Master’s + 2 years of experience in data science, statistics, engineering, computer science, business analytics, or related fields
  OR
• Bachelor’s + 4 years of related experience
  OR
• Associate’s + 8 years of related experience
  OR
• High School/GED + 10 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications (Stand-Out Attributes)

• Expertise in Python and SQL for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and automation.
• Experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, or similar distributed analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with visualization tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, or Power BI, plus strong data storytelling ability.
• Understanding of machine learning algorithms, model development, and evaluation techniques.
• Experience with multivariate statistical tools (e.g., SIMCA) for data exploration or predictive modeling.
• Ability to translate complex analytical results into actionable business insights.
• Experience integrating diverse data sources such as PAT, LIMS, MES, and OSIsoft PI for end-to-end analytics.
• Exceptional collaboration skills with business, engineering, and product teams.
