Chemical PSM Engineer

Job Overview

Cooperidge Consulting Firm is seeking a PSM Engineer for a top Global Chemical Manufacturing client.

This key role, located in Eastern NC, is responsible for implementing and overseeing all aspects of the plant-wide Process Safety Management (PSM) program. The position requires extensive technical expertise in PSM-regulated industries, driving continuous improvement strategies related to performance, Management of Change (MOC), corrective actions, audits, and regulatory compliance across production, maintenance, EHS, and projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Apply PSM principles by providing technical expertise, implementing comprehensive policies and procedures, and performing PSM-focused audits.
  • Set clear strategies and goals for the continuous improvement of the site's overall PSM program performance.
  • Assist employees in the thorough review of all plant process changes, modifications, construction, and operations for strict PSM compliance.
  • Facilitate PSM corrective actions developed from Incident Investigations, PHAs, and audits to reduce or eliminate process and physical hazards.
  • Manage all PSM correspondence, record keeping, and comprehensive reporting documentation, including MOC and incident/corrective action reporting.
  • Support site PHA Facilitators by providing necessary training in HazOps, Safety Integrity Levels (SIL), Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Stay informed of new or pending PSM regulations, methods of enforcement, and inspection procedures by regulatory agencies.
  • Work directly with regulatory agencies on all PSM matters, including agency inspections, and manage the PSM program budget for the Health & Safety Department.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Process Engineer responsible for PSM-compliant regulated industries.
  • Extensive technical background working in production/operations, maintenance, EHS, and projects.
  • Experience with leading or supporting incident investigations is required.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Extensive knowledge of the OSHA Standards for General Industry regulation 29 CFR 1910.119 is required.
  • Ability to work in the USA without sponsorship, now or in the future, is required.

Skills

  • Must have a good understanding of chemical manufacturing operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills for collaborating across interdisciplinary teams (operations, maintenance, EHS).
