Job Overview

This role is field-based and involves extensive travel. A company car will be provided for business use.


Description Summary:

A Fiber Optic Outside Plant (OSP) Technician will be responsible for customer installation, troubleshooting, testing, and ILA maintenance and all operating aspects of our fiber optic cabling infrastructure.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Customer environment installations including fiber testing and troubleshooting
  • Route and ILA inspection and maintenance
  • Perform troubleshooting and restoration oversight during service interruptions or outages
  • Perform relocation management and oversight during excavation and repositioning
  • Conduct fiber characterization using OTDR, power meter/light source, and other testing equipment
  • Monitor and maintain fiber enclosures, handholes, vaults, cabinets, and terminals in accordance with construction drawings and industry standards
  • Read and interpret fiber schematics, splice diagrams, construction maps, and engineering prints
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and local regulations during all field activities
  • Accurately document all work completed, including redlines, fiber assignments, and test results
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, jurisdictions, and utility locators to complete builds and repairs
  • Maintain tools, splicing equipment, and company vehicles in good working condition

 Education/Training/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED (technical or trade school preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and testing in an OSP environment
  • Proficiency in fiber testing/characterization, including but not limited to OTDR testing, light source/power meter use, and fiber inspection scopes
  • Comfortable working in various outdoor conditions, including confined spaces and heights
  • Strong understanding of fiber color codes, splicing best practices, and construction standards
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

 Preferred Qualifications

  • FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certification.
  • OSHA 10/30 Certification.
  • Knowledge of GIS or fiber management systems (e.g., VETRO, OSPInsight, etc.).
  • Experience with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), rural broadband, or municipal fiber networks.
