Platform Engineering Lead

As a Platform Engineering Lead you'll drive innovation and operational excellence within our Cloud Platform Operations organization. This role is responsible for designing and delivering highly opinionated and configured AWS Accounts. This foundational platform simplifies the developer experience by providing a structured environment with integrated capabilities for networking, security, compliance, cost optimization, reliability, performance efficiency, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the Infrastructure Engineering Manager, you will lead the architecture and automation of multi-account AWS environments, embedding governance and best practices into every layer.

What you'll do

AWS Account Platform Delivery

• Define and implement Highly Opinionated AWS Account configurations aligned with organizational security, compliance, and cost objectives.
• Build automation for account provisioning, account feature updates, baseline configuration, and continuous compliance enforcement.
• Deliver self-service tooling for account creation and lifecycle management, integrated with governance workflows.

Developer Experience & Cognitive Load Reduction

• Provide structured AWS accounts with integrated operational pillars—networking, security, compliance, cost optimization, reliability, performance efficiency, and operational excellence.
• Enable developers to focus on building business logic by abstracting complexity through automation and guardrails.
• Create clear documentation and self-service capabilities to simplify onboarding and usage.

Platform Architecture & Automation

• Design Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions (primarily Terraform) for multi-account AWS environments.
• Develop automation frameworks for operational workflows and governance.
• Integrate platform services with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps practices.

Operational Excellence & Reliability

• Establish operational standards for availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Implement observability solutions (AWS CloudWatch and Datadog) and incident response frameworks.
• Drive continuous improvement in operational resilience and change management.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead and mentor a team of platform engineers, fostering a culture of automation and reliability.
• Partner with Finance, Security, Developer, and Product Engineering teams to align platform capabilities with business goals.
• Communicate technical strategies and operational insights to senior leadership.
