- Development Strategy: Design and implement a multifaceted fundraising plan, including individual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, and special events.
- Donor Relations: Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at all levels; manage donor recognition and retention programs; oversee CRM management and donor data integrity.
- Communications Leadership: Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy that advances Equality Ohio’s visibility, advocacy goals, and brand awareness across digital, print, and earned media.
- Content Development: Oversee creation of compelling messaging for campaigns, press releases, newsletters, social media, annual reports, and website content.
- Press Relations: Management media and press relationships, develop new media partnerships, track and manage press release and media response data
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor development and communications staff, contractors, and interns; foster a collaborative, mission-driven work environment.
- Community Engagement: Represent Equality Ohio at community events, coalition meetings, and public forums; build relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and media.
- Reporting & Analytics: Track and analyze fundraising and communications metrics; prepare regular reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Budget Oversight: Develop and manage annual budgets for development and communications functions; ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
- Shared Organization Responsibilities
- Upholding and advancing Equality Ohio’s vision, mission, and values.
- Participation in internal staff meetings, including weekly TouchPoints, monthly staff meetings, equity trainings, and period retreats and strategic planning sessions
- Adapting to and utilizing internal communications and document retention protocols and platforms
- Providing content and expertise to inform grant proposals and reports and funder communications as needed
Requirements
- Unwavering commitment to addressing the needs of LGBTQ+ Ohioans
- Awareness of the issue priorities, policy battles, and experiences of LGBTQ+ Ohioans
- Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising and communications, with demonstrated success in donor cultivation and media relations.
- Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues, advocacy work, and the Ohio nonprofit landscape strongly preferred.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; expertise in digital marketing, social media, and public relations.
- Proven ability to develop strategy, set goals, and deliver results in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Proficiency in fundraising and communications software (e.g., CRM systems like EveryAction, email marketing platforms, design tools).
We prefer but do not require the following qualifications and skills:
- Direct experience working at an LGBTQ+ or trans-focused movement organization
- An understanding that the process of changing hearts and minds is not overnight or immediate, which is a core element of our theory of change
- Spanish speaker
