Job Overview
- Develop and promote recreational programs which meet the needs of all program participants.
- Supervises all recreation staff, ensuring that students receive instruction in safety aspects of all activities, i.e., water safety, athletic field safety, etc.; records in CIS as required.
- Conducts in-service staff training sessions as needed.
- Plans and arranges for all on-center activities, including provisions for cultural and creative activities, sports, and other leisure-learning programs.
- Extend partnerships to other recreational providers in the community.
- Maintains recreation supplies and equipment, and orders replacements, as necessary.
- Develop, draft, and submit calendar of events for review monthly to the Social Development Director.
- Publishes an advance recreation schedule on a monthly and/or weekly basis and posts it in areas to be viewed by program participants.
- Maintains a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly participation record.
- Conducts monthly student surveys on recreational program.
- Monitors and control expenditures for departmental budget.
- Maintains stock of trainee uniforms and various other athletic garments.
- Increases opportunities for trainees to lead project-based teams during event hours.
- Sensitizes staff to encourage sportsmanship, fair play, and positive social interactions.
- Acknowledges and rewards program participants who exhibit positive social behaviors and sportsmanship.
- Assesses personnel needs and works with the Human Resources department to screen and interview potential staff. Recommends promotions, transfers, and merit evaluations within the department. Conducts and prepares performance appraisals.
- Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills.
- Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property.
- Adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
- Fosters and sustains a conducive environment at the center, ensuring it remains free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, thereby ensuring a safe space for both staff and students to engage in work and learning.
