Job Overview

What You’ll Do:

Technical & Architectural Leadership

  • Architect and evolve Fusion’s enterprise data environment — spanning operational databases, analytics warehouses, and reporting systems.
  • Lead modernization efforts from legacy ETL to ELT and real-time streaming pipelines in Azure.
  • Oversee development and optimization of SQL Server databases, ensuring high performance, availability, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to embed data quality and telemetry into Fusion’s application and API ecosystem.

Interoperability & EDI Integration

  • Lead a team of EDI and interface engineers responsible for HL7, FHIR, and API-based integrations.
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of Mirth Connect (NextGen) interfaces to enable secure, reliable data exchange with external systems.
  • Define standards for interface versioning, error handling, and monitoring to ensure stability and traceability across clinical integrations.

Data Analytics & Visualization

  • Lead Fusion’s interoperability efforts through the design and management of HL7 v2.x, FHIR, CCD, and other healthcare data exchange standards.
  • Oversee a team of EDI and interface engineers maintaining Mirth Connect (NextGen) channels for inbound and outbound data feeds.
  • Design and optimize message processing workflows, transformations, and routing logic to ensure secure and reliable data movement between internal systems and external partners.
  • Collaborate with EMR/EHR vendors, state registries, labs, and pharmacy networks to maintain compliant data exchange interfaces.
  • Implement proactive monitoring, version control, and auditing for interface stability and traceability.
  • Drive strategy for API-based integrations (RESTful and JSON/XML), supporting modern interoperability frameworks and real-time data sharing.
  • Stay current with evolving standards (e.g., USCDI, TEFCA) and apply them to Fusion’s interoperability roadmap.

Governance, Quality & Compliance

  • Establish data governance practices that ensure accuracy, lineage, and compliance (HIPAA, CJIS, SOC 2).
  • Partner with business functions to align data models, definitions, and usage standards across teams.
  • Implement and oversee metadata management, cataloging, and stewardship programs.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and develop a high-performing cross-functional data team through mentorship, technical guidance, and coaching.
  • Drive collaboration across engineering, product, QA, and infrastructure to ensure end-to-end data reliability and integration.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes, ensuring alignment with Fusion’s mission and client impact.

Who You Are:

  • A data-focused technical leader with 5–7+ years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or informatics, and at least 2 years managing cross-functional teams.
  • Experienced in leading hybrid teams of software engineers, data analysts, database administrators, and EDI/interface engineers.
  • Skilled in designing and maintaining data pipelines, warehouses, and integration systems using modern cloud platforms (Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks).
  • Proficient in SQL Server administration, tuning, and optimization for high-volume production environments.
  • Knowledgeable in healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, CCD) and tools (Mirth Connect, API gateways).
  • Comfortable managing data architecture, governance, and analytics enablement across both operational and strategic layers.
  • A mentor and communicator who builds trust, promotes craftsmanship, and connects engineering execution to business value.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience architecting, developing, and maintaining complex backend systems using C# across different versions of .NET.
  • Proficient in designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting relational data models. You understand stored procedures, indexing strategies, and the nuances of operating databases in production environments.
  • A data and integration leader with 5–7+ years of experience in data engineering, interoperability, or informatics, including 2+ years managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experienced in healthcare interoperability standards — HL7 v2.x, FHIR, CCD, X12 EDI — and familiar with clinical workflows and data exchange patterns.
  • Hands-on experience managing Mirth Connect (NextGen) or equivalent interface engines, including channel configuration, transformations, and scripting (JavaScript, Groovy).
  • Deep understanding of SQL Server performance optimization, stored procedures, partitioning, and security.
  • Skilled in Azure cloud data tools, ETL/ELT frameworks, and modern integration design.
  • Knowledgeable in API design, RESTful integration, and event-driven data exchange
  • A strong communicator who bridges the gap between business and technical stakeholders, translating data complexity into clear strategy and value.
  • Passionate about using healthcare data to improve care delivery, patient outcomes, and system efficiency.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience leveraging monitoring tools, such as Datadog or New Relic, to identify and rectify application performance bottlenecks.
  • Familiarity with tools like Bicep or Terraform for managing cloud infrastructure in a scalable, version-controlled way.
  • Working knowledge of frontend software engineering principles using Angular and Node.js, including component architecture, state management and modular design.
