Job Overview

The Total Rewards Director is a strategic leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization’s total rewards strategy for Japan, including compensation, benefits, and the global Long Term Incentive program. This role ensures our rewards offerings are competitive, equitable, and aligned with the company’s business objectives, culture, and values. This individual will directly support the VP, Total Rewards on executive compensation matters within the remit of the relevant Board Compensation Committee. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in both broad-based and executive compensation, a thorough understanding of benefits administration, and strong stakeholder management skills.  

【Responsibilities】

Strategy & Leadership 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive total rewards strategy that aligns with organizational goals and supports talent attraction and retention. 

  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on compensation and benefits trends, challenges, and opportunities in Japan market. 

  • Lead and mentor a team of Total Rewards specialists, fostering a performance-driven and collaborative culture. 

  • Partner with HR Business Partners and Talent Acquisition to ensure compensation practices support workforce and market competitiveness. 

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external consultants and vendors to maximize service delivery and cost efficiencies. 

  • Promote employee understanding and satisfaction with compensation and benefits offerings through effective communication strategies and education initiatives. 

Compensation & Benefits Administration
 

  • Design, implement, and manage compensation structures, including base pay, bonus, and benefits programs tailored for the Japan market. 
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local labor laws and global corporate governance, working with relevant advisors as needed 
     

Executive Compensation Support 

  • Partner with the VP, C&B to prepare and coordinate materials for the Compensation Committee, focusing on executive remuneration frameworks. 

  • Conduct market benchmarking, analyze compensation data, and provide recommendations to inform executive pay decisions. 

Stakeholder Management 

  • Collaborate closely with HR, Finance, Legal, and Payroll teams to ensure seamless administration of compensation and benefits programs. 

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external consultants and vendors to maximize service delivery and cost efficiencies. 

Program Management 

  • Lead on the coordination of global compensation programmes, including the Company’s annual compensation planning cycle, working alongside C&B colleagues in other regions. 

  • Coordinate the determination and monitoring of annual compensation program budgets, including annual merit increase budgets, and monitoring of annual bonus plan performance against performance targets. 

  • Evaluate existing programs for effectiveness, cost efficiency, and alignment with the company’s strategic objectives. 

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive communications and training materials in both English and Japanese to ensure employee understanding of Total Rewards programs 

  • Provide recommendations for enhancements, process improvements, and best practices to bolster the overall rewards strategy.
