Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Virtual Assistant (MVA) with a background in ophthalmology and strong expertise in prior authorizations and insurance eligibility. The ideal candidate will support our ophthalmology practice by managing insurance authorizations, verifying patient benefits, coordinating with payers, and assisting with scheduling and patient communications.
Requirements
- Prior Authorizations & Insurance Eligibility
- Prepare, submit, and follow up on prior authorization requests for ophthalmology procedures, surgeries, and medications (e.g., cataract surgery, intravitreal injections, specialty medications).
- Verify insurance eligibility, coverage, and benefits for new and existing patients.
- Manage insurance company communications, appeals, and denial resolution.
- Maintain accurate records of all insurance interactions, authorizations, and approvals.
- Experience in navigating MODMED EMR is a required.
- Practice & Patient Support
- Coordinate patient appointments, pre-op and post-op scheduling, and diagnostic testing.
- Communicate authorization status and requirements to patients in a clear and empathetic manner.
- Provide general administrative support, including chart updates, documentation, and report preparation.
- Collaborate with physicians, technicians, billing staff, and front office teams to ensure smooth workflows.
- Data & Compliance
- Use EMR/EHR systems to document authorizations and patient records accurately.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and practice policies in all communications and record handling.
