Overview

The Senior Accountant – Internal Controls & Revenue Assurance is responsible for documenting, improving, and maintaining financial processes that support accurate, compliant, and efficient operations. This role strengthens internal controls, supports revenue integrity across all business lines. The position ensures that financial data is reliable, risks are mitigated, and reporting supports informed decision-making for SmartestEnergy US.

In this role, you will be involved with the following:

Internal Controls & Process Documentation

·        Develop and maintain comprehensive end-to-end process documentation (SOPs, flowcharts, narratives) for operational and financial processes.

·        Lead the design, implementation, and periodic review of internal controls for SmartestEnergy US

·        Perform control assessments, walkthroughs, and testing to ensure effectiveness and compliance.

·        Identify control deficiencies, develop remediation plans, and verify completion.

·        Partner with internal and external auditors, serving as the primary point of contact for control-related audits.

Revenue Assurance

·        Lead revenue assurance activities to ensure complete, accurate, and timely billing and settlements.

·        Monitor key revenue processes, including ISO data, load forecasting, pricing, enrollment flows, meter data management, and billing system outputs.

·        Investigate revenue leakage, variances, and exceptions; coordinate corrective actions with the appropriate teams.

·        Implement dashboards, KPIs, and monitoring tools to proactively identify anomalies in revenue processes.

·        Support the alignment of revenue recognition practices with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

·        Work closely with Operations, Billing, Settlements, Trading, Risk, and IT to strengthen end-to-end revenue and control processes.

·        Provide guidance and training to business partners on control concepts, documentation, and compliance expectations.

·        Support new system implementations, upgrades, and process changes by ensuring proper control design and documentation.

The successful candidate for this role is expected to plan, structure and prioritize their day-to-day work to meet their objectives, the requirements of their manager and the needs of the project or activity. This may include coordination of other internal or external resources at an activity level.

To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:

  • Graduate or study in accounting, CPA is a plus

  • Greater than 5 years relevant experience,

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Energetic, driven and committed to success while working under tight time constraints and pressure.

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within teams and independently. 

  • Proficient with MS Excel, power point and other Microsoft office suite functions.

  • Experienced with Accounting Software Applications.

  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
