Job Overview

The Maintenance Technician I is a beginning technician responsible for performing maintenance tasks under routine supervision and mentorship to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a chemical manufacturing facility. This role builds expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as troubleshooting and repair of process equipment. The Maintenance Technician I works through standardized procedures or direct shadowing, assists in the troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment, is mentored by senior team members, and participates in continuous improvement efforts.
 
The Maintenance Technician I works on all process and infrastructure assets on site including pressure vessels, process gas compressors, rough vacuum pumps, HVAC, steam boilers, hot oil circulators, cooling water towers, compressed air and nitrogen distribution, fire suppression, and waste-water operations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly rounds to ensure boilers, air compressors, and cooling towers are operated in a safe, efficient and economical manner, compliant with environmental permits. 
    • Operate, monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes. Perform routine and emergency operation of the wastewater plant.
    • Collect water samples for in-house and outside analysis. Prepare samples for shipping to outside laboratory if required. Maintain appropriate records.
·        Perform preventative maintenance, repair, and overhaul of pneumatic, hydraulic, and rotating equipment systems ensuring compliance with plant specifications and industry standards.
o   Under supervision, install and repair runs of pipe & tubing, ensuring proper layout, fitting, and compatibility of materials for different applications.
o   Respond to emergency maintenance calls and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime.
·        Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
·        Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, including:
  • Safe Work Permit
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Line Break
  • Hot Work
  • Confined Space Entry
·        Ensure compliance to PPE requirements, always maintaining a safe working environment.
·        Operate forklifts, boom lift, carry deck, scissor lift, and other industrial equipment, ensuring proper training and certification.
·        Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
·        Participate in Maintenance Team continuous improvement activities.
o   Collaborate with Engineering to identify root cause of equipment failures and determine actions for improved reliability.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic qualifications:
·        High school diploma or equivalent
·        Prior experience in a manufacturing with demonstrated mechanical ability
·        Troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
·        Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawings
·        Experience with standard tools and equipment, including saws, drill presses, welding tools, and fabrication equipment
·        General knowledge of industrial safety standards
·        Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
 
Prefer:
·        Experience in a PSM chemical manufacturing environment with electrically classified occupancies
o   Prior training on Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations
o   Prior work following American Petroleum Institute (API) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards for pressure vessels and high hazard piping.
·        Prior experience with refrigeration circuits
·        Prior experience with stick, MIG, or TIG welding
·        Familiarity with process instrumentation and variable frequency drives
 
Educational Requirements:

·        High school diploma or equivalent
