Job Overview

Silver Springs Nursing & Residential Home are looking for a Health Care Assistant to join the team, to be responsible for providing high-quality care to residents, in-line with the highest regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities
  • To work as a team to provide high-quality care to residents.
  • Promoting and Safeguarding the welfare of residents.
  • To support residents, ensuring personal care tasks are carried out to enhance and support the independence of the resident, in-line with the Care Plan(s).
  • Reviewing progress of care with the residents, and reporting any signs of deterioration in physical or mental health appropriately.
  • Follow policies and procedures to maintain the highest standards of Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Measuring effectiveness of residents' Care Plan(s) with interdisciplinary team; providing care improvement recommendations when required.
  • To carry out tasks in a way that will demonstrate respect for dignity and privacy, irrespective of the severity of disability or personal circumstances.
  • To liaise with other agencies involved with residents, when required.
  • To respect the rights and choices of individuals.
  • Participate in audits, as requested and required.
  • Act in accordance with all legal requirements; fostering treatment practices and standards of care that comply to the values of the Home, whilst observing governing regulations.
  • To encourage positive social interactions with residents.
  • Attend and participate in supervision meetings and appraisals where required.
  • Comply with all respective company policies and procedures.
Personal Care Responsibilities
Health Care Assistants will undertake any tasks that have been identified in the Care Plan(s), which may include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting residents to mobilise in accordance with best moving and handling practices and Care Plans.
  • Assisting residents to maintain a good dietary intake of food and drinks, in accordance with training and Care Plans.
  • Undertake roles in relation to medication administration (this is role specific and must be carried out at the discretion of management and in-line with training, local standards and company policy).
  • Encourage residents to be as independent as possible with their personal care requirements.
Domestic Responsibilities
To undertake domestic tasks relevant to the role, at the discretion of management and in-line with documented Care Plans. Tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • To ensure a clean and safe working environment for residents and colleagues.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • No formal qualification required, but RQF level 2 in Health & Social Care is desirable, or the willingness to undertake this qualification at the earliest possible convenience. For Health Care Assistants without RQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care, the Care Certificate will need to be completed.
  • Level 3 RQF medication unit is required for Health Care Assistants looking to undertake tasks involving medication administration.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Observational skills.
  • Able to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Able to work in a team but use their own initiative.
  • Caring and kind.
  • Flexible and reliable.
  • Integrity.
