Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

Role Overview

You will work on creating VFX for a mobile game. The VFX Artist should be able to firstly iterate and previz the VFX within After Effects, using art created in Photoshop and or Blender. They should be able to create both fantasy, sci-fi, and natural physical effects, both to complement environments and provide VFX to communicate gameplay to the player. They should be able to create a variety of VFX effects assigned to them and deliver them to defined deadlines. Quickly adapt to new art styles and any technical requirements and pipelines. Be diligent to deliver the quality following art guidelines and style from the Lead Artist and Art Director, and also be efficient in following the production schedule.
 

Responsibilities
  • Work with designers, the Art Director, and the technical Lead to establish visual standards and technical specifications of VFX assets for the project. 
  •  Improve the visual quality of the game by creating high-quality real-time visual effects that are performant on mobile. 
  • Work closely with Tech Art to provide VFX that can be integrated into the mobile game in an efficient and optimized way.
  • Review the existing library of visual effects in the game and look for ways to improve optimizations while elevating or maintaining visuals.
  • Help communicate gameplay mechanics to the player through VFX elements
  • Collaborate with the lead tech artist to creatively solve technical and art pipelines.
  • Work with Character, Environment, and UI pipelines to create stunning FX and compelling moments.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Strong portfolio showing examples of VFX for games.
  • Excellent 3D experience in one or more software, such as After Effects, Blender, 3D Studio Max, Maya, Softimage
  • Good knowledge of Photoshop and texture creation
  • Good  basic art skills in art fundamentals (colour composition and form)
  • Passionate about games
  • Unity experience is a plus
