The Workshop comprises 8 full time staff who work across all departments and locations and work with all staff, students and academics. The post holder is responsible for providing a consistent standard of care and upkeep of all College properties. The role will involve working closely with the Maintenance Team. It should be noted that working outside in all types of weather is required for this post.

Key Responsibilities
- Report any maintenance problems to the Clerk of Works.
- Carry out maintenance duties as instructed by the Workshop Manager and to assist other maintenance staff as required.
- Such as plumbing.
- Door adjustments and repair.
- Furniture repair.
- Window adjustments and repair.
- Refitting /repair of door locks.
- Flooring repair.
- Decorating.
- Complete required inspections 6 monthly on rooms and fire doors.
- Ability to safely use woodworking machines.
- Carry out manual handling tasks with the maintenance department as required and assist with, but not limited to room set-ups, moving furniture and stock.
- During conference periods assist the conference and events team with setting up the marquee for events as directed.
- To join the call-out rota to provide 24-hour emergency call-out cover responding efficiently to emergency call-out requests, as needed by the College, irrespective of time as per the call out rota.
- Reading and recording utility meters.
- Report any bad behaviour or any damage to the premises to the Workshop Manager immediately.
Periodic/Seasonal
- Sweep and disinfect dustbin areas in the different college locations.
- Sweep and wash down bicycle racks in different college location.
- Sweep and clear rubbish from under grills covering basement windows.
- Name plates for rooms.
- Ensure steps and pathways are clear and non-slippery during icy weather.
General
- To participate in training and development designed to minimise occupational risks.
- To wear any protective clothing supplied and follow directions on safe working methods.
- To use equipment as directed by the Workshop Manager and Clerk of Works.
- To be familiar with, and work in accordance with, all College’s policies and procedures.
- To ensure that College and statutory regulations regarding Health and Safety are complied with in all tasks undertaken, ensuring safe working systems and environment.
- To carry out tasks in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.
- To provide flexibility and support for the maintenance team, with the ability to multi-task and apply general building skills for example tiling, plastering or painting.
- To be vigilant and take responsibility for ensuring the Workshop and College property and equipment is kept safe at all times.
- To ensure all personal data relating to individuals is kept confidential in accordance with College policies and relevant data protection regulations.
- To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably directed or requested by the Workshop Manager or Clerk of Works. This job description may be subject to review in consultation with the post holder.
Person Specification and Criteria
Essential
- General maintenance and DIY skills.
- Experience of carpentry (Qualifications Desirable).
- Ability to communicate effectively with all staff, academics and guests to a good level of spoken English.
- Full UK clean driving licence.
- Flexibility to join the call out rota for weekend work and an evening each week and able to do early starts if necessary.
- The willingness to and ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work to identified standards.
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team and offer flexibility.
- Reliable, trustworthy and capable of using own initiative.
- In good health and capable of doing physical work which involves bending, lifting and climbing stairs.
- Willingness to undertake training and development
Desirable
- Experience of completing firedoor inspections and works.
