We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator with a proven track record of managing and optimising enterprise-grade data platforms. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and end-to-end ownership of our critical database environments, working with a highly capable engineering team and leveraging the latest Microsoft data technologies.
You will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, performance tuning, integrity, resilience, availability, scalability, and security of our on-premise and Azure-hosted Microsoft SQL Server estate. This includes driving best-practice standards, advancing our database architecture, and collaborating closely with software engineering teams to ensure performant, secure, and maintainable database solutions.
This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid working model, with attendance at our Bradford Head Office at least once per month for in-person collaboration with the wider technical team.

Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and maintain on-premise and Azure-hosted SQL Server database environments, ensuring robust architecture and high availability
- Monitor and optimise database performance, including query tuning, indexing strategies, resource utilisation, and proactive detection of performance bottlenecks
- Oversee database security, integrity, and compliance, managing access controls, permissions, patching cycles, and adherence to organisational standards
- Deliver reliable operational support, including troubleshooting, incident resolution, backup and recovery management, and ensuring platforms run at optimal efficiency
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to influence logical/physical database design, provide performance guidance, and support complex SQL development
- Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation, covering database systems, processes, standards, and tooling (e.g., Redgate), while driving continual service improvement across the data platform
- Enable knowledge sharing, including training colleagues in efficient data extraction and contributing to the advancement of best practices across the team
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- 10 years plus working as a Database Administrator
- Expert understanding and application of T-SQL
- Expert understanding of Relational Databases, design, & modelling
- Microsoft SQL Server (IaaS - Azure VMs, PaaS (SQL Managed Instances and Azure SQL Databases) platforms
- Redgate tooling - SQL Source Control, SQL Change Automation, Redgate SQL Monitor, Redgate SQL Clone, Redgate SQL Compare, Redgate Toolbelt
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant technologies
