Due to MSG's continued growth, we're expanding rapidly in the Pennsylvania market, with active growth in our Hermitage, Cranberry, and Waynesburg offices. We are building a strong Transportation Engineering practice in the region and seeking a Roadway Practice Leader to help drive project delivery, mentor staff, and support long-term practice development. This role is ideal for an experienced roadway engineer who enjoys both technical work and team leadership within a growing consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, design, and delivery of roadway, highway, and intersection projects for municipal, county, and state clients. 
  • Oversee development of design plans, specifications, cost estimates, geometric design, profiles, cross sections, and supporting calculations. 
  • Manage multiple projects, including scope, budget, and schedule tracking. 
  • Coordinate with internal teams across structural, traffic, survey, geotechnical, environmental, and construction services. 
  • Guide and mentor junior and mid-level staff on technical tasks, project workflow, quality control, and professional growth. 
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and design discussions to support project execution and client satisfaction. 
  • Support business development efforts including proposal preparation, project scoping, and relationship-building with public-sector clients. 
  • Ensure project work complies with PennDOT design standards, AASHTO guidelines, and applicable local requirements. 
  • Contribute to building the Transportation practice in Pennsylvania through thought leadership, team development, and process improvements. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain PA PE if not already licensed in Pennsylvania. 
  • 15+ years of experience in roadway or highway design; experience with PennDOT projects strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency with relevant design software including MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, leading technical teams, or mentoring staff. 
  • Strong understanding of PennDOT standards, AASHTO Green Book, and transportation design best practices. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Prior experience developing or growing a roadway or transportation team. 
  • Existing relationships with PennDOT Districts or local government agencies. 
  • Experience with traffic coordination, utility coordination, right-of-way plans, or permitting.
