- To supervision and lead the team in the delivery of underground cable laying, duct work and other associated works.
- To develop, agree and ensure strict management of all on-site Health & Safety matters
- To work closely with Schedulers, Engineers & Technicians to coordinate the day-to-day allocation of staff to planned and unplanned work ensuring the most efficient use of the labour time of assigned staff.
- To carry out day-to-day running of the ground and reinstatement works team and will be required to deal with any matters that may impede workflow and achieving daily delivery targets.
- To provide time and cost estimates for work packages and closely monitor and manage performance in time, cost and quality.
- To deal impartially with minor personnel problems and infringements as they arise to ensure to do not impact wider performance of the team.
- This role is a key liaison person for other sections to obtain services from the section including the work scheduling function.
- May be required to be part of a formal standby roster.
- Work is carried out in a variety of environments including on the public roadways and in all weather conditions and reasonable fitness is required for on-site work and the carrying of heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. As the Team Supervisor this role is directly accountable for the operation of the ground and reinstatement sub-function within the Distribution Department, acting as key support to the Head of Department in the execution of the wider corporate strategy.
2. Supervision and management of teams.
3. Responsible for all aspects of site management including time, cost, quality and satisfactory completion at the end of works.
4. Responsible for Health & Safety on site including the strict adherence to agreed RAMS. Permits to Excavate and HSG47
5. Ensure the safety of excavation sites both inside and outside of working hours.
6. Ensure any IT requirements such as Timesheets and Service Orders are completed in a timely manner.
7. Draws materials from GEL Stores and make minor purchases of materials as required facilitating work.
8. Ensures tools, equipment and plant is kept in good condition and serviced as required.
9. Operate excavation tools and machinery and carry out some digging by hand.
10. Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.
11. Such other duties as may be allocated, and interchange of duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrable previous experience in a similar role.
- Ideally ‘Street Works’ qualified.
- First line management experience of small teams.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
- Ability to solve problems and identify risks/issues before they arise.
- Ability to manage and motivate teams to meet operational delivery deadlines.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills.
- Basic IT skills.
- Must be able to undertake all aspects of the role including, but not limited to heavy lifting
