Air Operations and Pricing Specialist

Job Overview

The Air Operations and Pricing Specialist is responsible for the service delivery of import and export air freight shipments originating from China and the wider APAC region. Reporting to the Air Lead in China, you will work closely with the Air Lead, client manufacturers, local partners, Zencargo overseas offices and Air Procurement Teams to ensure a first-class service for every customer with Air requirements.

Uniquely to this role, you will also drive commercial success by managing daily quotations, liaising directly with client suppliers, and ensuring we secure the best rates to meet client pricing and service requirements.



Key Responsibilities

1. Operations & Service Delivery

  • Booking Management: Coordinate the booking, collection, and loading of customer shipments at origin, according to agreed customer KPIs.
  • Supplier & Order Management: Work directly with origin manufacturers and suppliers, or via agents, to ensure Cargo Readiness Dates (CRDs) are up to date and then when they fall into the booking window, get booked
  • Dwell Time Management: You will be responsible for ensuring consistent delivery of air freight services, specifically maintaining low origin dwell times within China and APAC.
  • Platform Accuracy: Ensure the Zencargo platform is always up to date, including the accuracy and timeliness of operational updates and billing.
  • Consolidation: When set up in the SOP, manage the consolidation process with gateway facilities (Zencargo’s or a partner’s) to maximize ULD utilization and cargo density.

2. Pricing & Commercial

  • Daily Quotations: Manage daily ad-hoc pricing requests, ensuring fast turnaround times to meet client deadlines.
  • Rate Negotiation: Liaise with airlines and local partners to secure the best spot rates and contract rates to meet client pricing and service requirements.
  • Margin Management: You will be responsible for maximizing margin, by achieving delivery margin and minimizing origin and destination costs.
  • Cost Control: Ensure costs are controlled or raised when they are incurred, and accurately document costs and revenues through V&As on the platform.

3. Communication & Relationships

  • Customer Updates: Establish a communications cadence and keep customers and internal teams up to date on their shipments.
  • Partner Performance: You will be responsible for ensuring the performance of third parties, including manufacturers and our freight partners within the region.
  • SOP Adherence: Work with partners to manage shipments and escalate whenever partner SOPs are breached, firstly directly calling the partner, then raising to your direct manager. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 2 years working in a top freight forwarding company in an Air freight team.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in Mandarin and English (Written and Spoken) is mandatory. You must be able to communicate effectively with local suppliers in China as well as English-speaking global teams.
  • Pricing Knowledge: Experience with air freight pricing, requesting spot rates, and understanding market trends in the China/APAC region.
  • Customer Focus: A customer-focused approach to solving problems.
  • Digital Fluency: Comfortable working with large volumes of data and reporting.
  • Start-up Mentality: Happy to get into the weeds—we are a fast-growing start-up and everyone has to pull together to deliver our vision.
  • Drive: A desire and motivation to build something innovative and disruptive.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel within the region when required.
  • Background: Experience of working in a start-up or SME is desirable, although not essential.
