An opportunity has arisen for us to recruit a Power Plant Operator on a permanent basis within the Operations department at Lynemouth Power Station.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of a high-pressure boiler and the 140Mwe Turbo Alternator Unit. The role is critical to the safe and efficient operation of the generating units.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Shift Manager, the responsibilities are to:
- Work as part of a shift team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the generating units.
- Undertake plant and unit inspections, monitoring plant status and responding to alarms.
- Undertake routine plant change overs as well as identifying defect and potentially unsafe conditions.
- Identify and recording any defects and safety issues identified during plant inspections in the Maintenance Management system.
- Gather, analyse, interpret, and log plant performance data relevant to the area under your control and implement changes to improve operational efficiency with the assistance of the Power Plant Controller(s) as required.
- Undertake standard operational duties in one of the three roles: Unit Operator, General Duties Operator or Ash Plant Operator.
- Remove plant from service and assisting in the isolating of plant in readiness for the issue of safety documents.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Background
- Experience / knowledge of safe systems of work, including permit to work, method statements and risk assessments.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure and working to tight timescales.
- Experience of working in heavy industrial or engineering environments, preferably power generation.

Qualifications
- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent), to include Maths and English at Level 4 / grade C - essential.
- Level 3 qualification (e.g. ONC, NVQ, A-level) in either Maths, Science, Design & Technology, or a similar relevant subject - essential.
- HNC (level 4) in Engineering, or a similar relevant subject - essential.
- Equivalent relevant experience in power generation at a similar level - desirable.
