The Manufacturing Systems and Standards Engineer reviews Assembly Services designs to ensure compliance with quality standards, product specifications, feasibility for manufacturing, health and safety standards, Swagelok Customer Solutions, and Product Modification policy. The role ensures the accuracy and completeness of Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and work instructions that guide manufacturing execution.
This individual continuously evaluates tools, machines, equipment, processes, controls, and maintenance practices to ensure adequacy and to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
In parallel, this role leads the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of engineering design standards, manufacturing guidelines, and technical best practices that enable consistent, repeatable, and scalable execution across products and services. This includes serving as a technical advisor and influencer to cross-functional teams, ensuring standards are practical, understood, and adopted, not merely documented.

Key Responsibilities
- Generate and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) and Routings within SAP-B1
- Develop detailed Work Instructions to supplement routings when required
- Manage the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process, including:
- Drawing releases and revisions
- BOM and routing changes
- Work instruction and test procedure updates
- Review new designs for manufacturability, risk, and process capability
- Initiate and lead process improvement activities through study of existing manufacturing processes
- Identify and support implementation of new capabilities, tools, and equipment
- Manage and maintain preventative maintenance instructions for manufacturing and facility equipment
- Provide technical input to the Quality Materials Review Board
- Support facility improvements and capital equipment initiatives
- Perform and support equipment, process, and validation activities
- Participate in daily manufacturing stand-ups and provide engineering status updates
- Review and resolve engineering requests from manufacturing personnel
- Develop, document, and maintain engineering design standards, manufacturing guidelines, and best practices applicable to Assembly Services and value-added offerings
- Ensure alignment between design intent, manufacturing capability, quality requirements, and customer expectations
- Act as a technical advisor and influencer across Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams
- Partner with Design Engineering and Sales Engineering to improve design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) outcomes
- Establish standard approaches for materials selection, process definition, documentation structure, and validation methods
- Drive consistency in engineering documentation, specifications, and change management practices
- Support root cause analysis (RCA), FMEA, and corrective action efforts by embedding standards-based thinking into problem-solving
- Mentor engineers and technical staff in applying standards and sound engineering judgment
- Identify gaps in existing standards and proactively propose improvements aligned with business growth, scalability, and risk reduction
- Attend and actively participate in Manufacturing’s daily stand-up meeting
- Provide daily status of Engineering actions to Production Control
- Review and resolve Engineering Requests submitted by manufacturing personnel
- Enter new Engineering Change Requests and update status of open requests daily
- As part of the quoting process, review BOMs and Routings within SAP-B1, compare against internal and customer drawings, proactively identify and resolve inaccuracies (components, operations, time standards, etc.), ambiguity, and incomplete documentation
- Review new designs for manufacturability
- Perform daily equipment and process validations
- Participate in Material Review Board meetings and activities

Education & Work Experience
- Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 5 years minimum Engineering experience
- Experience developing engineering standards, guidelines, or design frameworks
- Welding process experience and familiarity with ASME, AWS, ISO standards
- Lean, Six Sigma, and quality assurance experience
- Hands-on experience with equipment, tooling, and process development
- Experience influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority
- Preferred:
- Welding process experience and welding specification (ASME, AWS, ISO) knowledgeable
- Hands-on 3D Printing capabilities and knowledge
