This position includes supervisory responsibilities, overseeing a team of seven designers in our Detroit office, and offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
Key Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
As the Senior Transportation Engineer & Office Lead, you’ll combine technical expertise with team leadership to deliver high-quality transportation and utility projects:
- Lead the preparation of transportation design plans and 3D models for local agency and municipal utility projects
- Perform and review design calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Prepare design packages for milestone client submittals, including estimates, special provisions, and RID packages
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team
- Support MDOT projects as needed, applying similar expertise and leadership
- Oversee and manage a team of seven designers, ensuring successful project delivery and professional development
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- 12-15 years’ experience working with MDOT transportation and Local Agency
- Michigan PE with the ability to become registered in other states
- Knowledge of OpenRoads ORD design software is required. AutoCAD/Civil3D is a plus
- Experience working as a PM
- Desire and ability to manage a team
