Key Responsibilities – ICU & Critical Care Medicine
Advanced Patient Monitoring & Nursing Care
- Provide continuous monitoring and management of critically ill ICU patients
- Interpret and respond to changes in vital signs, blood gases, and lab values
- Manage advanced equipment including:
- Ventilators
- Infusion pumps
- Advanced monitoring systems
- Ventilators

Emergency & Specialty Support
- Assist with emergency stabilization and advanced life support
- Support anesthesia induction, maintenance, and recovery for critical patients
- Collaborate with ER and specialty teams on complex treatment plans
Technical & Diagnostic Expertise
- Perform advanced technical procedures including:
- IV catheter placement (including central lines)
- Blood draws and arterial sampling
- Radiographs and point-of-care diagnostics
- Administer medications, blood products, IV fluids, and nutritional support

Client Communication & Documentation
- Assist veterinarians with client updates and education
- Maintain thorough, accurate medical records and ICU flow sheets
- Ensure continuity of care during patient handoffs
Team Collaboration & Case Rounds
- Participate in ICU rounds and interdisciplinary case discussions
- Mentor and support junior technicians and assistants as appropriate
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in Tennessee or eligible for licensure
- 3+ years of experience in Emergency, ICU, or Specialty medicine
- Strong proficiency in:
- Critical patient monitoring and nursing care
- Emergency procedures and advanced life support
- Anesthesia and ventilator management
- Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
Preferred
- VTS (Emergency & Critical Care) or actively pursuing
- Experience with mechanical ventilation and advanced ICU protocols
- Demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience in clinical settings
Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced understanding of pathophysiology, shock, sepsis, and trauma
- Expertise with anesthesia protocols, ventilators, and monitoring equipment
- Strong critical-thinking skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage high-acuity cases with confidence and compassion
Physical & Emotional Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and work on your feet for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Emotional resilience in high-stakes and time-sensitive environments
