Port Hospitality and Operations Assistants are responsible for the day-to-day operation of The Shipyard, providing a high-quality food and drink service to passengers and the public. Duties include serving refreshments, handling payments, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and presentation. In addition, Port Hospitality and Operations Assistants support the Port Security and Operations (PSO) team by assisting with security operations as required, helping to maintain a safe, well managed, and welcoming port environment while contributing to a positive customer experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality Food & Beverage service in The Shipyard by providing a welcoming, professional, and helpful experience to passengers and members of the public, including greeting customers, serving food and drinks, handling payments, and maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, food safety, and presentation.
- Ensure The Shipyard is set up and operated in line with passenger demand, working closely with Port Operations colleagues to provide an efficient and well organised service during busy periods.
- Carry out daily cleaning, presentation, and health and safety checks across The Shipyard, acting proactively to address issues and reporting any faults or concerns promptly.
- Monitor food safety requirements, including temperature checks, equipment cleaning, stock rotation, and replenishment of consumables to maintain compliance and service quality.
- Support port security operations in line with UK Department for Transport MARSEC and ISPS requirements, including security screening, patrols of restricted areas, access control, and escorting non-pass holders when required. ‑pass holders when required.
- Act as a visible and approachable presence within the port, providing information, reassurance, and assistance to passengers and port users as needed.
- Respond positively and professionally to incidents, delays, or changing operational demands, supporting colleagues to maintain a safe and calm environment.
- Act as a Fire Warden and first responder for basic first aid when required, helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of passengers, staff, and the public.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous experience in customer facing roles, especially food and beverage service, with a clear focus on delivering a positive and professional customer experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently and courteously with passengers and members of the public.
- Sufficient colour perception to operate security Xray equipment safely and effectively as part of customer facing security operations.
- Willingness to undertake and successfully complete all required training to meet UK Department for Transport MARSEC regulations, supporting a safe and reassuring environment for passengers.
- Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene would be advantageous.
- The ability to speak some French would be an asset, with additional languages and relevant experience valued for enhancing communication with a diverse range of passengers.

Disclosure Scotland clearance required. Training will be provided on maritime security regulations and procedures, manual handling, Food Safety and Hygiene, basic first aid and fire marshalling.
