Job Overview

The Port Hospitality and Operations Co-ordinator looks after the day to day running of the food and beverage services in The Shipyard.  The role ensures services are planned around boat schedules and to changing passenger and public needs. The focus is on delivering a safe, efficient, and high-quality service so everyone using the port has a positive experience.  

The role reports to the Port and Security Operations Team Leader who manages all employees and rostering.

This is a seasonal role and the successful candidate will need to work flexibly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day running of Food and Beverage operations in The Shipyard, making sure services run smoothly and in line with daily plans and boat schedules.
  • Managing the ordering and deliveries of food and drink supplies and ensuring stock levels are maintained to meet passenger and public demand.
  • Monitoring daily revenue and expenditure This includes reconciling card payments and supplier costs to ensure records are complete and accurate. 
  • Carry out regular food hygiene and safety checks, making sure standards are met and any issues are dealt with quickly. 
  • Supervise staff on site while working in The Shipyard, setting daily tasks, keeping an eye on progress and making sure work is done safely and to the right standard. 
  • Support and organise training for staff on food serving, food hygiene and safe working practices, so everyone knows what is expected. 
  • Make sure clearing, cleaning and general housekeeping are carried out properly, keeping The Shipyard clean, safe and welcoming at all times
  • Write operating procedures to ensure the team follow Health & Safety rules, food safety requirements and safe systems of work, and raise any concerns or problems when needed.
  • Keep the Port and Security Operations Team Leader informed about how operations are running, including any issues with resourcing, service, safety or demand. 
  • Check the condition and cleanliness of The Shipyard and its equipment; and report any maintenance or repair needs through the correct systems.
  • Help with briefings and updates so staff are clear on daily priorities, safety messages and service expectations. 
  • Provide extra support during busy periods and respond flexibly when boat schedules or passenger numbers change. 
  • Look for simple ways to improve how the service runs, including safety, cleanliness and customer experience. 
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks needed to support port and maritime operations. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven experience in a food service environment, delivering a welcoming, high-quality service to customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate positively and professionally with customers, your team, and colleagues across different teams.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and appropriately to meet customer needs and expectations.
  • Experience in workforce planning, rostering, and recruitment to ensure the right people are in place to deliver a consistently high standard of service.
  • A strong understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities, particularly food safety and hygiene, to ensure customer safety and confidence at all times.
  • A clear understanding of equality and diversity, ensuring services meet the needs of all passengers and members of the public in a fair and respectful way.
  • Commitment to completing all required training to meet Department for Transport MARSEC standards, maintaining a professional and trusted service environment.

Disclosure Scotland clearance required. Training will be provided on Food Safety and Hygiene, maritime security regulations and procedures, manual handling, PRM safety and procedures, basic first aid and fire marshalling.
