We are seeking Naval Architects to join or Maritime Design & Engineering team. The Maritime Design and Engineering team draws on the combined strength of BMT and AMT, bringing together more than 40 years of experience across Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, and Combat Systems/C4I Engineering to meet growing industry demand.

In this role you will work on a diverse range of exciting projects, in support of a wide range of Australian and regional Defence programs, both for new construction, and for sustaining and upgrading current ships of the RAN Fleet and for regional Navies.  

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:
  • Provide specialist design engineering services for all things Naval Architectural, including ship design, construction, stability, structures (with a strong FEA focus) and outfitting;
  • Develop technical solutions to meet specified requirements as part of the engineering and drafting team at BMT in support of numerous and diverse projects;
  • Provide advice and support to other technical staff; 
  • Travel to inspect, measure, test and assess a range of Naval platforms specific to project; and
  • Represent AMT on a professional and technical basis with clients.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have:
  • A relevant Naval Architectural Degree;
  • Gained or be on the path to gaining Chartered status with RINA, IMarEST or Engineers Australia;
  • Proven proficiency in computer aided design and engineering applications, specifically Finite Element Analysis programs (Altair suite or similar)
  • Excellent written communication and high-level interpersonal abilities; 
  • Well-developed problem diagnosis and solving skills; 
  • Effective time management skills and strong attention to detail; and
  • The motivation and drive to develop your technical capabilities within a highly supportive, multi-discipline engineering environment. 
  • Australian Citizenship
  • Australian Defence clearance or have the eligibility to gain a defence clearance.
