Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities

Summary of Role

At Anthesis, we are looking for a working student passionate about remote sensing and data analysis to help shape innovative solutions for our nature-based carbon projects. These projects span Africa, Europe, and South America and focus on impactful initiatives such as mangrove restoration and regenerative agriculture.

Why Join Us?

  • Contribute to meaningful work that helps combat climate change and promote biodiversity.
  • Be part of a collaborative and dynamic team working across continents.
  • Gain hands-on experience in the rapidly growing voluntary carbon market (VCM) and Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
  • Develop your expertise in remote sensing and data analytics while making a real-world impact.
Key Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll support our Carbon Project Development team in advancing remote sensing strategies and tools for tracking and monitoring carbon projects. Your work will focus on applying geospatial technologies to assess changes in biomass and soil organic carbon while contributing to a more sustainable planet.

Key areas you can explore and contribute to include:
  • Systematically review peer-reviewed articles and grey literature on soil organic carbon dynamics in tropical and subtropical systems, especially Brazilian ICL/AMP and pasture systems.
  • Curate calibration/validation datasets (e.g., SOC stocks, bulk density, climate, soils, management histories) suitable for RothC and VMD0053 requirements, with clear provenance and metadata.
  • Extract and organize data into model-ready formats (e.g., CSV) with robust documentation and QA/QC checks.
  • Support model runs (RothC) and uncertainty analyses under VMD0053 (e.g., split-sample validation, goodness-of-fit metrics), working alongside Anthesis modelers.
  • Summarize findings in concise technical notes, figures, and tables for inclusion in the Project Description (PD), Model Validation Report, and supporting appendices.
  • Collaborate with Brazil-based partners on field context (e.g., soil sampling schemes, management practices).

Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Key Requirements
  • We are looking for someone currently enrolled in a Master’s program (e.g., Soil Science, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Ecology, Data Science, or related).
  • Comfortable with data wrangling (Excel/Google Sheets) and reproducible workflows.
  • Strong skills in literature review and evidence synthesis; ability to judge study quality and applicability
  • Familiarity with soil carbon models (ideally RothC) or strong motivation to learn quickly.
  • A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with a willingness to learn and grow in a supportive environment.
  • Familiarity with emerging remote sensing technologies (e.g., AI or machine learning) is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent English writing skills
