Summary
 
The Production Operator Lead is a hands-on technical and operational role responsible for running the automated gummy line while providing day-to-day leadership to Production Operators and Production Support staff. Acting as an assistant to the Production Operator Supervisor, this position supports line execution, troubleshooting, quality control, and staffing coverage during shifts. The Production Operator Lead ensures production goals are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all SOPs, food safety standards, and state regulations. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate the automated gummy line, including equipment start-up, changeovers, monitoring, and shutdown in accordance with SOPs. 
  • Assist the Production Operator Supervisor with daily line execution, staffing coverage, and adherence to the production schedule. 
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues; make approved adjustments to maintain product quality and consistency, escalating issues as needed. 
  • Accurately prepare ingredients, workstations, and equipment; perform regular equipment checks to ensure proper operation. 
  • Perform and document periodic product checks including pH, Brix, color, odor, appearance, counts, weights, and measurements. 
  • Maintain high-quality standards through continuous QA/QC and visual inspections of in-process and finished products. 
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of ingredients, WIP, and finished goods in compliance with food safety practices. 
  • Lead Production Operators and Production Support staff when the Supervisor is not present; assign tasks and monitor workflow and performance. 
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and coaching of Production staff on SOPs, safety, sanitation, and quality standards. 
  • Perform opening and closing duties as assigned and ensure accurate completion of production logs and reports. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; reinforce sanitation and safety procedures throughout the shift. 
  • Communicate quality, safety, equipment, or staffing concerns to the Production Operator Supervisor, Kitchen Manager, or Plant Manager. 
  • Support packaging operations as required and assist with minimizing waste and improving efficiency. 
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience operating automated manufacturing or food production equipment; prior lead experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues in a fast-paced production environment. 
  • Experience with food safety, sanitation, and quality standards in a kitchen or manufacturing setting. 
  • Ability to work with a high sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively lead peers and communicate across teams. 
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft suite (core applications), Google, Slack, experience with digitial production logs preferred, experience in Jira and/or other management platforms and software preferred 
  • Language Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written  
  • Math Skills: Possess basic mathematical skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division 
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel required between buildings and sites 
  • Ability to maintain/manage confidential information 
  • State regulations require all applicants must be 21 years of age or older 
  • ServSafe or Food Handler’s Card preferred 
  • Will be required to submit to a background check 
  • Must obtain all applicable state-required permits, licenses, and certifications
