As an Oncology Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in patient monitoring, chemotherapy safety, and guiding clients through complex treatment plans with clarity and empathy.

Veterinary Oncology Technician Job Overview


The Licensed Veterinary Technician – Oncology supports veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of oncology patients. This role requires strong technical skills, chemotherapy safety awareness, medical record review, and confident client communication to ensure exceptional patient care and client understanding.

We are specifically seeking an LVT comfortable with client engagement, relaying medical information, and educating pet owners throughout the oncology care process.

Here is What Your day May Consist of:

  • Assist veterinarians during oncology exams, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Safely prepare and administer chemotherapy following oncology safety protocols
  • Monitor patients during procedures, sedation, and recovery
  • Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture proficiently
  • Review and maintain accurate oncology medical records
  • Communicate medical updates and treatment plans to clients clearly and compassionately
  • Provide client education on cancer care, medications, and home monitoring
  • Ensure compliance with chemotherapy handling and safety standards
  • Maintain oncology treatment areas, equipment, and supplies
  • Support appointment flow and specialty service coordination

Here is What You Will Bring to the Position:

  • Active New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential
  • Experience in specialty, oncology, or advanced veterinary medicine preferred
  • Proficient technical skills including patient monitoring and IV catheter placement
  • Familiarity with standard oncology safety and chemotherapy protocols
  • Comfortable reviewing medical records and relaying medical information to clients
  • Strong client engagement and education skills
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and professionalism
  • Team-oriented and dependable
  • Ability to lift and restrain up to 50 lbs safely
