The IEC Chesapeake Chapter is looking for a dynamic Workforce Development Specialist to help shape the next generation of electrical professionals. In this role, you’ll be at the center of our recruitment and retention efforts—connecting students and adults to life-changing careers through pre-apprenticeships, School-to-Apprenticeship programs, and employer partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Screen, interview, and guide applicants through apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs
  • Coordinate interviews between candidates and hiring contractors
  • Follow up with candidates from job fairs, outreach events, and school programs
  • Manage on-boarding and program paperwork with accuracy and care
  • Track applicant and student employment status using internal databases
  • Maintain the Available Apprentice List and Hiring Contractors List
  • Respond to program inquiries with professionalism and enthusiasm
  • Prepare reports and outreach documentation as needed
  • Assist with social media content to promote programs and opportunities
  • Set up classrooms and labs for training, events, and occasional Saturday programs
  • Provide backup support for phones and front-desk customer interactions

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience (or equivalent education/experience)
  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-through skills
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, Outlook, database systems, and presentation software
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort working with diverse populations, partners, and community stakeholders
  • High level of professionalism when handling confidential information
  • Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
  • Primarily light physical activity with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and use hands throughout the day
  • Varied schedule may include evenings and occasional weekends
