The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for a Cost Accountant. The role is to support the Finance Business Partner in implementing and ensuring compliance with px’s Finance strategy, procedures and systems and meeting business needs by supporting the finance department in all aspects of Cost Accounting.

You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities


  • To support management with financial information to control costs, drive performance and aid decision making as required.
  • To ensure accurate, reliable and timely completion of cost accounting requirements for assigned assets or projects including cost reporting, variance analysis, input to management accounts, cash forecasting and other ad-hoc activities as required.
  • To drive the timely preparation of the Annual Operating Plan for assets or projects assigned and actively support and guide site management and budget holders to ensure good budgetary control including ongoing quarterly forecast preparation and review. To prepare detailed monthly variance report and lead cost aspects of budget and forecast meetings. 
  • To work closely with commercial teams to anticipate, document and communicate events with potential financial impact.
  • To collaborate across the organisation to ensure a cohesive client service is provided with strong financial controls and fully auditable cost accounting for all assets or projects assigned.   
  • To provide relevant and accurate financial and accounting advice and consultancy, including guidance and direction on company procedure and legislative compliance requirements as appropriate.
  • To positively represent px, its clients, and the Finance Department at internal and external forums requiring a Finance presence. 
  • To act as a px contact point for external authorities and customer audit teams with reference to financial matters on assigned assets and projects.
  • As required, undertake assigned projects and investigations, providing realistic recommendations in line with legislative and business requirements, to improve overall service.
  • Support the management, review and update of relevant Finance policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Part-Qualified/Qualified chartered accountant – CIMA, ACCA
  • The job holder will have experience in the following:


·         Preparation of financial plans, budgets & reports.


·         Producing cost reports, variance analysis & ad hoc reports.


·         Delivering month end tasks and reconciliations accurately and in a timely manner.


·         Guiding and supporting non-financial personnel/managers on Cost issues.


·         Working with and reporting to external clients.


·         Presenting financial and commercial ideas.
