About the role:
The role of the Appraisals Trainer is pivotal in guiding and developing individuals who aspire to become Senior Appraisers. You’ll be responsible for delivering training, tracking progress, and creating solutions to address knowledge gaps, ensuring appraisers have the skills, judgement, and confidence to excel in their roles.

By combining hands-on training with structured classroom learning, you’ll play a central role in shaping the next generation of appraisers and supporting the department’s long-term growth.

Getting Started...
  • Shadow the Appraisals Training Lead to learn existing structures and practices.
  • Deliver training programs for new appraisers under supervision.
  • Provide one-to-one, hands-on training for new starters.
  • Observe and support classroom-based learning sessions.
  • Build strong relationships with Team Leaders and stakeholders.

Establishing Your Impact…
  • Deliver classroom training independently to new and trainee appraisers.
  • Track and assess appraisers’ progress using assignments, practical exercises, and feedback.
  • Identify knowledge gaps within the team and develop solutions.
  • Begin updating and refining training content to meet evolving needs.

Driving Excellence…
  • Embed a strong culture of learning across the Appraisals Team.
  • Take ownership of classroom sessions and create engaging learning experiences.
  • Document and measure the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Collaborate with Training Leads, Learning & Development, and management to evolve the department’s approach to training.

Key Responsibilities

Key Goals & Objectives:
  • Deliver structured, high-quality training to new and developing appraisers.
  • Support the progression of appraisers through to senior levels.
  • Use a range of teaching methods to suit different learning styles.
  • Track and measure individual performance and training outcomes.
  • Continuously improve training content and delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver training in classroom settings and at-desk coaching.
  • Use varied training styles and techniques to support different learning needs.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to leverage AI and new technologies to continuously improve the appraisals process and training delivery. 
  • Monitor appraisers’ performance and track progress against objectives.
  • Assess knowledge and skills through assignments, exams, and practical assessments.
  • Work closely with Senior Appraisers, Team Leaders, and management to align training with business needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of training activities and outcomes.
  • Attend relevant events, workshops, and training sessions to keep knowledge current and relevant.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of appraisal processes and product categories, including jewellery, cameras, watches, precious metals, toys, and electricals.
  • Confidence in delivering training in both group and one-to-one settings.
  • A keen interest in and ability to incorporate AI/ technology solutions into training content and departmental processes. 
  • Ability to adapt training style to suit different learners.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Organised, detail-focused, and able to track and measure training success.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
