About ARIA

ARIA is a new kind of R&D funding agency. We fund scientists and engineers to pursue research at the edge of the possible. From climate change to AI, society faces enormous challenges and opportunities that can be uniquely addressed by science and technology. ARIA was created to activate the UK’s world-class R&D in new ways, so we can meet these head on.

We are growing our team to develop bold new approaches that can scale – from programmes to systems, processes and everything in between. If that sounds fun, come and build ARIA with us.

Role Summary

As our Content and Ecosystem Communications Lead, you’ll play a central role in shaping how ARIA shows up to the world — strengthening our reputation, growing brand awareness, and building meaningful engagement across the UK and global R&D ecosystem.

Working closely with the Director of Communications and Engagement, and alongside colleagues leading programme communications, product, and engagement activity, you’ll take ownership of ARIA’s brand, ecosystem and partnership communications, and flagship organisational content. You’ll also manage our Brand & Content Manager, setting direction and ensuring high-quality and distinctive delivery across ARIA’s owned content channels.

We’re looking for someone who is excited by ARIA’s mission and motivated by the opportunity to join at an early stage — helping shape ARIA’s long-term identity and voice of the organisation as we scale.

What you’ll do

The scope of the role will evolve as ARIA continues to grow, but will broadly involve the following:

Shape ecosystem and partnership communications
  • Own the narrative and communications framework for ARIA’s Activation Partners, and for ARIA’s wider set of partnership-led initiatives (e.g. Innovator Circles), articulating their role, surfacing progress and learning, and integrating partner activity into ARIA’s wider brand and ecosystem story.
  • Design and deliver communications approaches that support partnership-building, convening, and long-term ecosystem trust, aligned with ARIA’s mission and values.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent, high-quality representation of ARIA and its mission across partnership activity, while allowing space for partner voice and experimentation.
Support executive communications
  • Support the Director of Communications and Engagement on executive communications, helping to identify and shape strategic opportunities for executive engagement, and overseeing their translation into high-impact external outputs, including speeches, thought leadership, public appearances, and opinion pieces.
  • Work with ARIA’s executive team to develop clear, confident messaging for external engagements.
  • Help ensure coherence and consistency across senior leaders’ external communications.

Strategic narrative and core organisational content
  • Act as the primary translator of ARIA’s operating model, strategy, and evolving priorities – ensuring these narratives evolve coherently and are translated and applied consistently across communications so they resonate with scientists, policymakers, partners, and the public.
  • Oversee the development of ARIA’s key organisational materials, including the Corporate Plan, to reinforce ARIA’s public value, accountability, and long-term mission.
  • Shape content for ARIA’s flagship moments and convenings, including the ARIA Summit, sourcing and curating impactful stories, liaising across ARIA’s ecosystem and partnerships, and ensuring narrative coherence and a distinctive, high-quality experience.
Lead content strategy and delivery
  • Manage the Brand & Content Manager, setting priorities, providing strategic direction, and supporting high-quality execution.
  • Design and maintain an effective resourcing model for brand and content delivery, including the commissioning and management of freelance and contractor support where needed.
  • Oversee ARIA’s content strategy across owned channels, ensuring content is distinctive, purposeful and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Work closely with the Programme Communications & Engagement Lead to identify, curate, and elevate programme stories and progress that strengthen ARIA’s brand, ecosystem narrative, and executive communications.
  • Input into press, media, and stakeholder engagement where organisational brand, ecosystem activity, or executive positioning are central.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of ARIA’s communications ways of working as the organisation scales, sharing insight, refining processes, and strengthening standards across the team.

Who you are

A successful candidate will bring many of the following skills/experience to the role:
  • Extensive experience leading brand, communications, or engagement work in complex, fast-moving, and high-growth or early-stage organisations.
  • You have a strong track record of driving communications and engagement initiatives from inception to delivery, including multi-channel campaigns and high-impact content.
  • You have an exceptionally sharp editorial eye, with the judgement to decide what matters, what doesn’t, and how to communicate with clarity, originality, and restraint.
  • You have experience managing and developing teams to deliver high-quality content and run effective communications channels at pace.
  • You are confident working across cross-functional teams, aligning diverse stakeholders to deliver end products to a high standard.
  • You have experience building and managing senior stakeholder and partner networks, and understand how communications supports long-term trust and collaboration.
  • You are politically astute and news-savvy, with a strong instinct for how narratives land with both specialist and general audiences.
  • You are excited by an environment that feels like a fast-paced, early-stage organisation, and comfortable operating with ambiguity and evolving priorities.
  • You are passionate about improving the world through science and innovation, and motivated by the opportunity to help build a distinctive, credible brand and world-changing community.
