Due to MSG's continued growth, a new opening is available for a (position) to assist with our projects in Canton, MI! 

Key Responsibilities


Administrative Duties
  • Log-in samples and consolidate by project and urgency.
  • Scan and organize control documents.

Technical Duties
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment and reagents.
  • Properly handle chemicals such as; Hydrochloric Acid, Tetrahydra-Furan, Butane, etc.
  • Prepare and analyze bulk building materials (i.e. drywall systems, insulation, flooring, etc.) for asbestos analysis via Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM).
  • Identify different types of asbestos, non-asbestos fibers, and other essential non-fibrous components.
  • Assist with quality control activities for consistency and accuracy.

General Duties
  • Adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements (ISO 17025)
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, including using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean work station.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Required
  •  Currently enrolled in a degree program in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Geology or another related field. 
  • Strong interest in laboratory work, environmental health, and safety.
  •  Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Recommended
  • Currently enrolled or graduated in a degree program in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Geology or another related field. 
  •  Experience with technical equipment
  •  Experience in a laboratory setting
  •  Optical Mineralogy
  •  Microsoft Excel experience
