What Will You Be Doing?
- Lead, mentor, and support the café team, creating a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.
- Manage inventory levels and ordering of food and supplies, ensuring cost-effective and sustainable purchasing practices.
- Create and evolve menus that are nutritious, diverse, and appealing to a broad audience, with thoughtful attention to dietary needs and special requests.
- Partner with the café team to plan and execute daily breakfast and lunch service, including à la carte offerings, batch cooking, and in-house baking.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of small and large catering events, from menu development and bulk production to presentation and service coordination.
- Maintain strong control over food and labor costs through smart planning, portion management, and operational discipline.
- Ensure food quality, consistency, and proper portioning to deliver an exceptional dining experience.
- Stay hands-on in food preparation and service, leading by example and setting the standard for culinary excellence.
- Train and coach team members on culinary techniques, food safety, sanitation, and best practices.
- Keep all kitchen and service areas clean, organized, and fully compliant with health and safety standards.
- Build strong partnerships with vendors to support quality ingredients, competitive pricing, and reliable service.
- Respond to customer feedback and inquiries promptly, always striving to enhance the overall experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
- 3+ years of experience in a culinary leadership role, with strong hands-on involvement in daily food service operations and team oversight.
- A natural leader with the ability to motivate, inspire, and develop a high-performing team.
- Solid understanding of food cost control, menu pricing, and inventory management best practices.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, supported by current certification, along with a deep understanding of sanitation standards and industry best practices.
- Advanced culinary skills, with the versatility to prepare a wide variety of dishes using different techniques and styles.
- Highly organized with strong time-management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Confident problem-solver who can make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Point-of-Sale systems, as well as digital tools for communication and promotions.
- Flexible and willing to work after hours when needed to support events or operational requirements.
