Ports of Jersey is seeking a Senior Communications & Marketing Manager, a strategic thinker, skilled communicator, and confident leader, to shape and drive our organisation-wide communications and marketing activity.
This senior role is instrumental in delivering impactful, coordinated, and high‑quality communications that support our Strategic Business Plan, operational priorities, and our commitment to transparent and effective engagement with customers, stakeholders, government, media, and the wider community.
You will lead our Communications and Marketing team, act as the organisation’s technical expert across all channels, and ensure we maintain consistent, trusted, and timely messaging; particularly during operational disruption, incidents, or periods of heightened public interest.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Leadership
- Develop and deliver integrated communications and marketing strategies aligned to the strategic goals, ensuring high‑quality execution across all channels.
- Provide expert advice to senior leadership and act as a trusted partner across the business.
- Lead, coach, and develop the communications and marketing team, fostering a high‑performing and collaborative culture.
Emergency Planning & Crisis Communications
- Lead communications planning for emergency scenarios, including familiarisation, training, and playbook development.
- Act as communications lead during crises or incidents, ensuring timely, factual, and empathetic updates.
- Coordinate closely across Ports of Jersey and external agencies.
Public Affairs, Media Relations & Monitoring
- Manage proactive and reactive public affairs and media relations, including developing a public affairs approach, training, liaison, and relationship building.
- Oversee public affairs monitoring processes: monitoring coverage, managing risks, escalating issues, and providing insight.
- Respond to public affairs questions and coordinate official responses with relevant teams to ensure accuracy, clarity, and timeliness.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement

- Press, Government, Industry/Trade organisations, Community groups, Digital & social audiences.
- Build strong relationships with key partners, ensuring regular engagement, transparency, and collaborative working.
- Ensure internal and external narratives are clear, consistent, and aligned with Ports of Jersey’s strategic objectives.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Brings extensive leadership experience in managing marketing and communications functions at a senior level, demonstrating advanced subject matter expertise and strategic oversight.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and delivering strategic campaigns across multiple channels.
- Strong background in press relations and crisis communications, ideally in complex or high-profile environments.
- Experience working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.
- Proficiency in digital marketing platforms, analytics tools, and content management systems.
- Strong understanding of brand management, audience engagement, and campaign performance metrics.
- Ability to manage budgets and supplier relationships effectively.
- Skilled in media handling, including drafting press releases and managing reactive statements.
- Able to inspire, guide and support a team through change and challenge.
- Clear, confident and adaptable in both written and verbal communication, especially important when managing crisis communications or sensitive media enquiries.
- Works well across departments and with senior leaders to build trust and alignment.
- Able to see the bigger picture while managing day-to-day delivery.
- Maintains confidentiality and represents the organisation with integrity.
- Understands the importance of public perception and stakeholder engagement.
