Job Overview

LV Community are looking for a Complex Needs Support Worker to join the team on Night Shifts, to be responsible for providing high-quality care to Service Users, in-line with the highest regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities;-
  • To work as part of a care team providing high-quality care, developing an effective means of communication between members of your team and colleagues.
  • Promoting and Safeguarding the welfare of Service Users.
  • Ensure that petty cash is used in accordance with the company's policies and procedures.
  • To support the Service Users, ensuring personal care tasks are carried out to enhance and support the independence of the Service User, in-line with the Care Plan(s).
  • Reviewing progress of care with the Service User, and reporting any signs of deterioration in physical and mental health appropriately.
  • Follow policies and procedures to maintain the highest standards of Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Provide support to Service Users, ensuring that they are able to budget effectively to meet the costs of their chosen social, educational or leisure activities, including all activities of daily living.
  • Teaching life skills such as shopping, using public transport and paying bills.
  • Measuring effectiveness of Service User's Care Plan(s) with interdisciplinary team; providing care improvement recommendations when required.
  • Enable Service Users to maintain a healthy diet and shop appropriately for the specific needs of the Service User, while also respecting their right of choice.
  • To carry out tasks in a way that will demonstrate respect for dignity and privacy of Service Users.
  • Contribute to enhancing the leisure and social life of Service Users by encouraging and supporting development of personal skills through hobbies and interests.
  • To liaise with other agencies and Health Care professionals involved with Service Users when required, to ensure all care needs meet the highest possible standards and maintain consistency of support.
  • Supporting and helping with Health Care needs such as routine checks or administering medication.
  • To respect the rights and choices of Service Users.
  • Participate in audits, as requested and required.
  • Act in accordance with all legal requirements; fostering treatment practices and standards of care that comply with the values of the company, whilst observing governing regulations.
  • To encourage positive social interaction with Service Users.
  • Attend and participate in training, team meetings, supervision meets and appraisals, where required.
  • Comply with all respective company policies and procedures.
  • Provide emotional and practical support for Service Users and their families.
  • Understanding Service Users' communication needs and adopting your communication to each individual, e.g. sounds, tones, body language.
  • Arranging and supporting a full range of activities, in the home and in the community.
Personal Care Responsibilities;-
Support Workers will undertake any tasks that have been identified in the Care Plan(s), which may include but are not limited to:-
  • Assisting Service Users to mobilise in accordance with best moving and handling practices and Care Plan(s).
  • Assisting Service Users to maintain a good dietary intake of food and drinks, in accordance with training and Care Plan(s).
  • Undertake roles in relation to medication administration (this is role specific and must be carried out at the discretion of management and in-line with training, local standards and company policy).
  • Encourage Service Users to be as independent as possible with their personal care requirements.
Domestic Responsibilities;-
Support Workers will undertake domestic tasks relevant to the role, at the discretion of management and in-line with documented Care Plans. Tasks may include but are not limited to:-
  • Washing.
  • Ironing.
  • Shopping.
  • Meal preparation.
  • To ensure a clean and safe environment for Service Users and colleagues. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • No formal qualification required, but RQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care is desirable, or a willingness to undertake this qualification at the earliest possible convenience. For Support Workers without RQF Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), the Care Certificate will need to be completed.
  • Level 3 RQF Medication Unit is required to undertake tasks involving medication administration.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Observational skills.
  • Good time management and problem solving skills.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
