Job Overview

The Financial Accountant supports the Head of Finance and Financial Controller in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting and management information, ensuring strong governance, compliance and effective cost and risk controls. The role combines sound financial acumen with technical curiosity, using business intelligence tools (including Power BI), automated platforms and well-structured working papers to improve insight, streamline processes and strengthen the control environment. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, the Financial Accountant delivers variance analysis and performance reporting, supports budgets and long-term planning, and contributes to tax compliance and year-end requirements through liaison with auditors, advisers and tax specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial reporting and month-end close (journals, reconciliations and balance sheet substantiation)
  • Tax compliance support, including preparation of schedules, working papers and liaison with advisers/auditors
  • Data analysis and visualisation using Power BI and Excel to deliver clear insight and performance reporting
  • Process improvement and automation mindset, leveraging systems and automated platforms to improve efficiency and controls
  • Strong control focus, with the ability to design, document and operate effective financial processes and evidence trails
  • Stakeholder management and communication, translating financial information into clear, actionable messages
  • Daily bank reconciliation and treasury operations, including journals, transfers and timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Fixed asset accounting, including asset register maintenance, disposals and depreciation analysis
  • Stock control and stocktake reconciliation, maintaining accurate stock records and reporting (adhoc)
  • Purchase ledger and supplier management, including purchase orders, invoicing, supplier set-up and payment processing (adhoc)
  • Accurate maintenance of statutory and internal registers (e.g., shareholder records) and supporting documentation (adhoc)

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven experience in a Financial Accountant (or similar) role, supporting month-end reporting and core finance processes
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office (advanced Excel) and Power BI; able to manipulate, analyse and present data clearly
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to build effective working relationships across the business
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work to deadlines
  • Collaborative team player with a flexible, proactive approach and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Demonstrates integrity and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive financial information
