Job Overview

The postholder will be part of a busy team that caters for the requirements of the College. The kitchen provides a food and beverage service to all students, staff and visitors. The Kitchen Porter will be responsible for the daily cleaning of the kitchen and equipment and ensuring food deliveries are safely stored.

Key Responsibilities

  • To receive deliveries from suppliers – checking goods received are correct.
  • To correctly store goods received in a timely manner.
  • To carry out general cleaning of walls, floors and food preparation services.
  • To wash/clean kitchen equipment, utensils, working surfaces and floors.
  • To observe hygiene, health and safety regulations and good practice.
  • To work to a cleaning schedule to ensure all kitchen areas are cleaned regularly.
  • To assist the Plate Room when necessary.
  • To carry out other duties as necessary to assist the team and function of the kitchen. 
General
  • The post holder will be required to be familiar with, and work in accordance with, all College’s policies and procedures.
  • To participate in training and development required by the College.
  • To be willing and prepared to undertake any other duties as directed by Head Chef or Sous Chef. The job description may be subject to review in consultation with the postholder.
  • To be vigilant and take responsibility for ensuring the Kitchen and College property and equipment is kept safe at all times. 
  • To ensure all personal data relating to individuals is kept confidential in accordance with College policies and relevant data protection regulations.

Person Specification and Criteria

Essential Criteria
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including an intermediate level of spoken English.
  • Reliable, hardworking and good timekeeping.
  • Capable of doing physical work which involves bending, lifting heavy deliveries, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to work without supervision and able to use initiative.
  •  Methodical with good attention to detail.
  •  Able to achieve high level of cleanliness and hygiene.
  •  Willing to work flexibly and assist colleagues when required.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in a similar environment.
  • Basic food hygiene.
  •  Knowledge of Health and Safety, HACCP and COSHH.
