Tapping Technician

Tapping Technicians provide effective maintenance and operation for water and wastewater utilities. The Tapping Technicians travel out of town.
Key Responsibilities
Role Responsibilities
• Field work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground water mains and tapping water mains
• Independent travel to multiple worksites utilizing service trucks or equipment
• Performs line stops, wet taps, and valve insertions utilizing different pipe types and products.
• Breakdown and setup of line stops, tapping, and valve inserting equipment.
• Performing and assisting in shop duties as necessary
• Work within confined spaces (trench boxes, excavations, tunnels, and mechanical rooms)
• Prepare and/or complete work orders and safety sheets
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Required Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge of and the ability to use basic hand tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in the performance of job function.
• Knowledge of using pumps, compressors, and other appropriate equipment
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and be able to write legible and descriptive reports on duties performed.
• Ability to work on emergency repairs and services unsupervised or in teams of various sizes.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• Ability to work outdoors in various and/or extreme weather conditions
• Must have a valid driver’s license clear of multiple and/or major violations.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of OSHA 30 within 90 days of hire.
• Completion of OSHA 10 within the first week of hire.
• Completion of Confined Space Training within one week of hire.
• 2 years of relevant construction experience (preferred)
