High-Level Overview
The client is seeking a Senior Finance Expert to provide strategic financial leadership and advisory support to an energy access programme in Malawi under Mission 300. The role will focus on shaping financing approaches, strengthening the financial viability of programme interventions, and supporting the mobilisation of capital to accelerate energy access outcomes. This position presents a significant opportunity to influence how energy access priorities are translated into financially viable and scalable interventions. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in energy finance, financial structuring, and advising on complex, multi-stakeholder programmes.

Key Deliverables:

To be updated once client scope is finalized
·       Lead the development of financing strategies, financial frameworks, and approaches to support the delivery and scaling of energy access interventions
·       Lead financial analysis and structuring of programme priorities, including assessment of costs, risks, funding gaps, and financial sustainability of interventions
·       Provide strategic advisory support on financing mechanisms, including public funding, private sector participation, and blended finance approaches
·       Support engagement with government, development partners, and financial stakeholders to align financing approaches and inform investment mobilisation efforts
·       Support capacity-building and institutional strengthening by advising counterparts on financial planning, structuring approaches, and sustainable funding models

Requirements

Experience Required:
·       Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in energy finance, infrastructure finance, or financial advisory
·       Demonstrated experience in financial structuring and analysis of energy or infrastructure projects/programmes
·       Experience advising on financing strategies within donor-funded or multi-partner programmes
·       Proven experience working with government, development partners, and financial stakeholders

Technical Requirements:

·       Strong expertise in financial analysis, cost modelling, and financial structuring 
·       Understanding of energy sector financing approaches, including public funding, private participation, and blended finance 
·       Ability to assess financial viability, sustainability, and affordability of programme interventions 
·       Familiarity with energy access sector dynamics and financing constraints in emerging markets

·       Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capability
·       Ability to translate financial analysis into clear strategic recommendations
·       Effective stakeholder engagement and advisory skills
·       Strong communication and reporting capabilities
