A key part of the role includes supporting and providing cover for the sales and purchase ledgers each month, ensuring all transactions are accurately processed and recorded. The post holder will develop a strong understanding of the full end-to-end accounting process, from invoice entry and reconciliation through to ledger closure and the impact on management accounts.
In addition, the post holder will be responsible for maintaining and creating several departmental P&Ls, acting as the Finance Partner whilst working closely with the P&L owner to highlight variances and observations.
The post holder supports the Group Reporting Accountant with the preparation of consolidated monthly profit and loss reports, budgets, forecasts and assists with data validation to helps produce high-quality management information.

Key Responsibilities
Sub Ledger Management
- Support and cover for the Accounting officers in the month-end closing process of both sales and purchase ledgers to ensure all invoices are processed, approved, and posted accurately before the month-end.
- Support the credit control process by assisting where needed to ensure that the team maintains the aged receivables report and highlights overdue balances.
- Support with supplier payments and statements reconciliations.
Management Accounting and Reporting
- To be effective, the postholder must develop a deep understanding of specific business areas, taking ownership of specific departmental P&L responsibilities.
- Supporting the Group Reporting Accountant in compiling and reviewing the Group’s monthly consolidated P&L statement, contributing to a clear and insightful narrative of the specific P&L areas of ownership.
- Assist in the completion of the weekly flash performance (KPI) report for submission to the Group Reporting accountant, to gain an understanding of the preparation of the report.
- Liaise with P&L owners to present their results, providing proactive, professional financial advice.
- Collaborate with departments to develop both financial and non-financial key performance indicators for weekly and monthly reports and to develop and evolve the reporting function.
- Liaise with external auditors as required.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting and reduce manual intervention; contribute to the development of dynamic dashboards.
- Continuously review financial processes to improve efficiency, especially around month-end and management accounts.
- Maintain a documented financial procedures library for processes and P&Ls under remit.
- Assist with the completion of the regulatory returns specific to business areas as needed.
- Undertake other ad hoc financial tasks as required.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Monitor departmental budgets monthly and advise budget holders where corrective action is needed; hold monthly meetings with each P&L owner.
- Support the P&L owners whilst creating the annual budget setting, acting as their Finance Partner.
Treasury
- Contribute to the segregation of duties framework within banking processes, including payment initiation, approval, and reconciliation.
Systems & Processes
- Help improve the month-end timetable and strengthen financial processes.
- Contribute to the group’s digitisation programme, championing tools such as Power BI, Dashboards, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Champion the Finance systems and processes, assisting with the smooth running of the Finance process.
The ideal candidate would have:
- At least 2 years’ experience in a Finance environment with experience in sub-ledger management and the creation of P&L.
- Fully qualified account technician (e.g. AAT or CAT)
- Experience with reporting tools.
- Expertise in Microsoft products, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Highly analytical and numerate, with strong attention to detail.
- A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, independent, and able to manage competing priorities.
- Resilient under pressure, adaptable, and flexible in approach.
- The post holder will foster strong relationships with senior managers.
