As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting veterinarians and delivering high-quality care across all aspects of the hospital, including patient care, surgery, anesthesia, and diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Nursing
- Perform patient assessments and monitor overall health
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments
- Provide nursing care throughout all stages of treatment and recovery
- Respond to urgent and emergency cases with efficiency and composure
Surgical & Anesthesia Support
- Prepare patients and surgical suites using proper sterile techniques
- Assist in surgery, including patient monitoring and instrument handling
- Administer and monitor anesthesia, ensuring patient safety throughout procedures
- Provide thorough post-operative care and recovery monitoring
Diagnostics & Laboratory Work
- Perform in-house diagnostics (blood work, urinalysis, cytology, parasitology)
- Assist with radiographs (x-rays) and ultrasound imaging
- Prepare and submit lab samples and communicate results to the medical team
Client Communication & Education
- Educate pet owners on treatment plans, medications, and preventive care
- Provide discharge instructions and home care guidance
- Build strong client relationships through clear, compassionate communication
Hospital Operations
- Maintain accurate medical records using EMR systems
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper sanitation of the hospital
- Assist with inventory and supply management
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Qualifications
- 1+ year of veterinary technician experience required (small animal practice preferred)
- Strong experience in surgery, anesthesia monitoring, and patient care
- Veterinary Technician License (CVT) preferred but not required
- Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology preferred
- Experience with exotics (or interest in learning) is a plus
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Skills & Core Competencies
- Proficiency in venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical assistance
- Strong understanding of veterinary protocols and aseptic technique
