Position Summary
Intermedia is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to ensure the quality and reliability of our Hosted PBX (HPBX) Voice Platform.
This role focuses on automated testing of real-time VoIP systems, with emphasis on protocol behaviour, network interactions, and system reliability under load. You will contribute to test design, CI/CD integration, and troubleshooting of issues across distributed components, using both traditional and AI-assisted approaches.

You will contribute to test design, CI/CD integration, and troubleshooting of issues across distributed components, using both traditional and AI-assisted approaches.
Key Responsibilities
· Design and maintain automated tests across API and end-to-end system layers
· Integrate test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
· Analyse failures using logs, metrics, and network traces (tcpdump, Wireshark, pcap)
· Validate VoIP call flows and signalling behaviour
· Execute load and reliability tests; define and monitor quality metrics
· Apply appropriate testing strategies (functional, integration, system-level) to ensure coverage and reliability
· Use AI-assisted tools to improve test coverage and failure analysis
· Collaborate with development teams to improve testability and system reliability
· Work across multiple areas with minimal supervision and clear ownership of deliverables
· Work in Linux environments to deploy, configure, and debug systems
· Track and manage defects using Jira
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
· Strong programming experience in Python
· Experience with C/C++ preferred
· Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g. pytest or equivalent)
· Experience with CI/CD systems (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
· Strong Linux experience
· Solid understanding of IP networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP, routing, NAT)
· Hands-on experience with tcpdump, Wireshark, and pcap analysis
· Experience testing and troubleshooting network-intensive systems
· Experience with API and system-level testing
· Ability to debug issues using logs, metrics, and traces
· Experience with SQL databases
· Practical use of AI tools for development or testing workflows
· Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and quality engineering practices
· Professional experience in complex or distributed systems
· Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and debugging findings
· Ability to prioritise work based on impact and system behaviour
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent)
