Job Overview

This role provides an opportunity to lead and shape the outstanding technical services at Bath Spa University’s Locksbrook campus, enabling innovative teaching and learning while maximising the impact of world‑class facilities. As Head of Locksbrook Technical Services, you’ll provide strategic leadership, manage and inspire a skilled technical team, and drive collaboration, quality delivery and commercial growth in partnership with academic and senior stakeholders.

About the Role

This role focuses on shaping and delivering resilient, future‑ready technical services by translating academic, operational and industry needs into well‑planned facilities, systems and support at Locksbrook. It combines hands‑on oversight of complex resources, safety, budgets and new developments with strong people leadership, cross‑campus coordination and active engagement with academic partners, external networks and commercial users to ensure services are relevant, compliant, sustainable and continuously improving. Key responsibilities comprise:
  • Leading the strategic planning and delivery of high‑quality, cost‑effective technical services that support teaching, learning and research across the University.
  • Directing and enhancing all technical services, facilities, systems and new developments at Locksbrook, ensuring they meet academic needs and operational standards.
  • Managing, developing and inspiring the Locksbrook technical teams, embedding a culture of professionalism, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Working closely with academic leaders, senior managers, other campuses and external partners to plan provision, shape strategy and extend commercial use of facilities.
  • Overseeing budgets, resources, health and safety and regulatory compliance, while contributing technical expertise to curriculum design and innovation.

About You

Essential:
  • Prior successful experience of managing people, facilities (including health & safety) and budgets.
  • Specialist expertise in at least one relevant specialist technical area
  • Proven inter-personal communication & networking skills for effective leadership and collaboration
  • Proven planning, coordination and organisational skills, including identifying and resolving problems

Desirable:
  • Experience of working in higher education
  • Knowledge or experience of industry / professional practice
  • Masters or equivalent professional qualification in a discipline relevant to the role
