px Group has been awarded a major Operations, Engineering and Maintenance (OE&M) contract by NZT Power and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP). This work will support two major regional projects:
- NZT Power’s carbon capture plant
- NEP’s onshore compression facilities
Over the initial five-year term, px Group will deliver the OE&M requirements of the Operational Readiness phase, supporting commissioning and managing the handover from the Joint Venture project teams into full operations.
The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for 2 x Control Room Operators for NZT Power's carbon capture plant, and 1 x Control Room Operator for NEP's onshore compression facilities.
The Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the plant from the central control room on a 24-hour shift system. The role ensures continuous monitoring, control, and optimisation of plant performance across all operating conditions, including start-up, shutdown, and abnormal operation, while maintaining full compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and control the plant during start-up, shutdown, and normal operation from the central control room, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
- Monitor and manage the Distributed Control System (DCS), including alarm management, process optimisation, and response to plant conditions.
- Maintain full situational awareness of plant status, including ongoing work activities, system configurations, and operational risks.
- Diagnose plant faults and initiate appropriate actions to make safe, stabilise, or rectify issues in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with Field Operators to ensure instructions are clearly communicated, understood, and safely executed.
- Ensure all plant defects and issues are accurately reported within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Minimum Requirements
• Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering or process discipline (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Operations), or equivalent.
• Understanding of power or process plant operations from both a control room and field perspective.
• Experience operating a Distributed Control System (DCS) within an industrial environment.
• Familiar with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Experience using IT systems associated with plant operations.
• Sound understanding of safe systems of work, including isolations, safety documentation, and permit to work systems.
• Strong organisational skills and sound operational decision-making capability.
• Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively under operational conditions.
• Capable of working flexibly across a range of operational activities.
• Experience working within a 24-hour shift environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
