About the Role

We’re looking for a Transaction Monitoring Specialist to strengthen VFX’s AML and CTF defences through high-quality alert investigations and continuous improvement of our transaction monitoring framework.

You’ll be responsible for reviewing alerts, identifying potential financial crime risks, and escalating suspicious activity where appropriate. Working alongside the Senior Transaction Monitoring Specialist and MLRO, you’ll help ensure our monitoring systems remain effective, efficient, and compliant with regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Monitoring & Investigations

  • Review alerts from the transaction monitoring system to identify unusual or suspicious activity (money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, sanctions breaches, etc.).
  • Conduct detailed investigations and draft clear, concise investigation summaries.
  • Escalate potential suspicious activity to the Senior Specialist or MLRO for further review / SAR submission.
  • Assist in thematic reviews on higher-risk customer segments or payment corridors.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of investigations and outcomes.

System & Process Improvement

  • Support system tuning and rule calibration by providing feedback on alert quality and typologies.
  • Help document changes to detection scenarios and support model validation exercises.
  • Contribute to enhancing workflows and procedures for greater efficiency.

Policy & Compliance

  • Follow internal AML/CTF policies, procedures, and escalation protocols.
  • Stay informed about regulatory developments (MLRs 2017, POCA, TACT, FATF guidance).
  • Support QA checks and internal audit requests as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Onboarding, Risk, and Operations teams to ensure customer and transaction risks are effectively managed.
  • Support the MLRO with MI preparation and periodic reporting.

Candidate Profile

  • 2–4 years’ experience in transaction monitoring within payments, fintech, or another fast-paced regulated sector.
  • Solid understanding of financial crime typologies and red flags.
  • Experience working with transaction monitoring or screening systems (e.g. ComplyAdvantage, Lexis Nexis, Actimize, SAS, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
